The premise of the game is for the player to reach 21 points, without going over that target. This works in the following way: cards of any suit from 2 through 10 are played at their face value. Picture cards of all suits are worth 10 points, but it is in the Aces where there is a little variation. In a hand in which you will bust over 21 with an Ace, it is only worth 1 point, whereas in all other cases it is worth 11 points. The hand in which an Ace is worth 11 points is called a ‘soft hand’, as it cannot be busted if you draw another card.
That is the simple part of casino blackjack, simply knowing what is expected of you. However, how you play and what tactics you employ are entirely down to you and will undoubtedly change as you get more experienced in your play. You will need to decide any number of the following: hit (take another card), stand (don’t take any more cards), double down (the current bet will be double the original wager and another card is taken) or surrender (forfeits half the wager and fold the hand).
